BOTOX  for Depression

We came across this interesting study for using Botox in cases of depression. Although the study did not include a control group or a large number of participants, the concept is an interesting one.

The idea that the inability to frown or look angry affects how you feel may well have merit. We all know how much better we feel when our life experiences keep us smiling as opposed to frowning. We're not advocating Botox as a treatment for depression, but the news article is interesting so we decided to share it with you.

We're interested in your experience. If you or someone you know has had Botox and felt there was improvement in mood or a lifting of depression, will you please share with us?

Skin Lasers and How They Work

How do lasers work?
Skin lasers have revolutionized dermatology. From the removal of a freckle to complete skin resurfacing, lasers provide precision treatments for dozens of skin problems.

A Laser is, in very simplistic terms, a light amplifier.

Lasers emit an intense beam of light or energy (visible or invisible) with a specific wavelength, which is targeted at a type of tissue in the part of the body being treated. This may be pigment in hair, pigment in blood (hemoglobin) or water in the skin tissue itself.  When the beam of energy reaches its target, it is absorbed and converted into heat.

This heat purposefully alters or damages the "targeted" cells without having a significant effect on the other cells that surround it. Since each target  absorbs a different wavelength of light, a different laser light is required for each type of problem.

Examples of laser treatments include hair reduction, skin resurfacing for wrinkle reduction and/or treatment of acne scars, removal of pigmented blemishes (e.g., age spots and moles), and treatment of vascular lesions (e.g., port wine stains, spider veins and facial capillaries) and tattoos. Lasers are also used to spur the re-growth of new, more youthful collagen within the skin.

For hair reduction, the laser system targets the melanin (or dark coloring) in the hair follicle (or root). The heat buildup in the hair root alters the ability of the hair follicle to produce new hair, resulting in an overall permanent reduction of hair growth.

To treat vascular lesions, including spider veins, rosacea and residual redness from acne, the light from the laser is directed at the blood vessels. The vessel wall is injured, shrinks and is subsequently absorbed by the body.

Treatments for surface blemishes, acne, sun damage and tattoos are based on a similar principle.

Dr. Fitzgerald or our Physician Assistant are happy to offer you a complimentary 15 minute consultation to determine which procedures will best improve your skin problems or provide the most anti-aging potential.

The New-Fashioned Facials

The "New-Fashioned" Facials
With all the new high tech options available, the art of the facial has been lost in many practices.

Dr. Fitzgerald embraces new technologies because they have changed the entire face of how aging and age-old skin problems are managed. Yet, one of the primary aspects of good-looking skin is skin health. All the technology out there won't keep your skin looking good unless you practice common sense and take the time to protect the investment you've made.

One of the more tried and true ways to bolster a solid at-home regimen and continue the benefits of your dermatology treatments is through a periodic professional facial.

Today's new-fashioned facials are a far cry from the "old-fashioned" facial that was little more than massage and a mask. Bio-active serums, medical micro-exfoliation, super-hydration, nanotechnology for skin brightening, powerful acne clearing and suppression, hyperbaric oxygen infusion, atoxelene anti wrinkle infusion and an array of ultra-calming anti-redness and skin stress protocols transform skin that needs help into skin that is glowing and healthy.

A few of our Powerful New Fashioned Facial Treatments:

Facials provide countless benefits that will lift, hydrate, lighten, calm and balance your skin.

Skin maintenance is certainly as important as taking care of  your car with scheduled mileage service or taking your clothes to a professional cleaner. Far from being an extravagance or a  special treat, a professional dermatological facial will solve skin problems, boost skin health, prolong and protect the improvements from medical procedures  and  increase effectiveness of home products and programs.
